Q&A with Scott
Tell us about your connection with climbing?
I can be pretty specific on when it all began!! My connection with climbing began on the 25th May 2007, that was when the then “ Climbing Centre“ opened in Ratho. My kids began climbing and I began belaying. Not to long after that a competition came to Ratho and one of the organisers was looking for volunteers, so, thanks to the negotiating skills of the late John Ellison, CAC founder and all round brilliant person, I began my judging career and I haven’t stopped since.
How long have you been involved in climbing/ mountaineering?
Since 2007
Why do you like climbing/ mountaineering?
I don’t like, it I love it. competitions are everything to me. If I walk away at the end of an event satisfied I played. Part in the organisation and delivery off a professional, timely, fun event within the comp rules, then job done.
What made you want to join the ClimbScotland team?
Just sort of fell into it.
What is your role?
I am currently Competition Officer for Scotland South Region (and I’m going nowhere).
What do you like about working with the team?
Forward thinking, supportive and all round Good fun. we work well together.
What is your main ambitions with your role?
To remain In post. To continue to deliver high quality competitions, on time, every time. It not a secret that I am extending my area of responsibility with a packed schedule of comps south of the border. I love being involved In competitions, for me this is a natural progression. I’ve run YCS Finals for the last 5 years, (that ones manic)! Been involved in CWIF (my fav one but don’t tell anyone, i get to judge!) and last year I officiated at the British Bouldering Championships, which is live streamed across the world and introduced live scoring, to add to the pressure!! Next stop, IFSC, if I can find way in! But delivering comps in Scotland is still my no1 priority.
