What happens when?
With local, national and international fixtures, in lead, speed and bouldering, the climbing competition year is packed and will certainly keep you busy if you catch the bug!
How to register for a competition
For all the youth and student competitions in Scotland you have to register for a place in advance. Depending on the comp, this can be done online via us or through your university or college climbing club.
For local climbing and bouldering competitions and leagues, pre-registering usually isn’t required, however it is worth checking with the climbing wall to make sure.
Preparing yourself for the competition
Carefully planning your climbing leading up to a competition is a great way to perform better on the day. Find out more about the type and style of climbing that you will be competing in and practice at your local wall. This will give you more confidence and strength, while helping polish your technique.
Most climbing walls around Scotland have or will be able to point you towards coaching classes. A coach will be able to advise you on what to work on before the competition.
On the day
Having a plan for the day will really benefit you... Start off by getting to the competition with plenty of time. This will give you the chance to have a look round the climbing wall, check out the routes or boulders, see your friends and meet new people.
Before the competition starts make sure you perform a good warm up and mentally prepare yourself.
And remember competitions are meant to be fun, so go out and enjoy yourself!
