2024 Selection News

With the 2023 selection coming to a close we are now turning our attention to the 2024 season. We will be working closely with our colleagues at the BMC, as GB Climbing, to make improvements to the selection process based on feedback, and what we have learnt this year as we implemented the transition to the new pathway structure.

We will be getting our draft Selection Strategy and Benchmarking Framework out for consultation in the next 3 weeks. As part of these documents, we will be outlining any new developments and looking for feedback from you.

At this stage we would like to make it clear that we are planning to utilise the upcoming 2023 domestic competition season as part of the selection process, and so we would encourage athletes to take part in the competitions listed below where possible.

We know some of the competitions have already pasted and where appropriate we will try to take into account results from these, but will also aim for a system that will not penalise athletes who may not have attended these specific competitions.

The YCS competitions, as in the past, will be used as part of the selection into the Scotland Development Squad, and for existing Development Squad athletes to support their application to continue in the squad.

We will endeavour to get all the relevant information, for the Scotland Talent Squad and Scotland Development Squad, out as soon as possible to help you plan the year ahead.

The relevant competitions include the following:

    Scottish National Championships

  • Scottish Boulder Championships
  • Scottish Lead & Speed Championships

    4 Nations Cup Series

  • English Boulder Cup
  • Irish Boulder Championships
  • Welsh Boulder Cup
  • Scottish Boulder Championships
  • Irish Lead Championships
  • Welsh Lead Cup
  • Scottish Lead Championships

(NB - Results from any of the 4 Nations Cup competitions may be taken into consideration)
