If you are on your journey to a climbing qualification, indoor or outdoor, shadowing instructors doing the job is a crucial part of the process. ClimbScotland recognise however that sometimes it can be hard to find shadowing opportunities in a small industry. We are proud to offer shadowing opportunities across our courses to make sure there is a pathway for new instructors to gain the experience they need for assessment.
Outdoor courses
If you are an RCI, RCDI or MCI trainee and are looking for shadowing opportunities on our outdoor courses we have loads to choose from. Our RealRocks (youth) and Ready to Rock (adult) programmes offer courses in bouldering, roped asters, sport climbing and trad climbing, from intros to improver sessions. *On each of our courses there is 1 Shadower space available to an RCI, RCDI or MCI trainee.
To book your place on either a RealRock or Ready to Rock course:

- On every course there is a free “RCI Shadowing (18+)” ticket option.
- Choose this and complete your booking.
*We confirm each course 2-3 days in advance once we have a reliable weather forecast.
You and the participants will then be sent confirmation details.
