
Ready to Rock – Learn to Trad Climb – Seconding and leading – (2 day course)
Venue: Glen Nevis
This two-day course is designed as the next step on your journey to becoming a safe and independent Trad Climber. Looking at the skills to be a competent second and looking at what’s involved in lead climbing.
Instructor to climber ratio 1:2
The course will cover:
- Movement technique on real rock
- Competent seconding skills
- Belaying a trad lead
- Placing and removing traditional gear
- Setting up belays
- Setting up retrievable abseils
- Decision making – understanding risk evaluation and management.
Equipment
- All technical equipment will be provided by the instructor other than rock shoes
Prerequisites
- Participants must be consistently lead climbing indoors.
- Participants must be able to belay another lead climber.
- Participants must have some experience of climbing outdoors (ideally through prior Ready to Rock Progression courses).

Ready to Rock Wet Weather
In the event of poor weather Mountaineering Scotland Will not cancel any course. Most of our sessions can be run despite unfavourable weather, and other venue choices may provide dry rock. It will be at the discretion of the Lead Instructor to make, and participants will be contacted with full details prior to the course.
Cancellation policy
- If you cancel more than 4 weeks before the date of the event – refunds will incur a £10 admin fee per booking to cover admin costs.
- If you cancel less than 4 weeks before an event date -we will offer a refund or transfer if we can find a replacement to take your place (£10 admin fee applies).
- If you cancel less than 7 days before a course date – we are unable to offer a refund.
