Inclusive Climbing Workshop
ClimbScotland have paired up with Able 2 Adventure to bring you a new Inclusive Climbing Workshop for those looking to support and work with people with additional support needs in climbing wall environments. Perfect for wall staff, club volunteers or parents/guardians catering for those with additional support needs. This workshop is being subsidised by sportscotland with the aim of making climbing a more inclusive and accessible sport.
The training day will cover
- General disability awareness and approaches
- Venue assessment (understanding your site as well as what the participant may want to know)
- Choosing which routes to use and understanding why
- Equipment (what is already available to you and how you can use it)
- Side by side support
- Climbing movement techniques (common areas that people with both physical and learning impairments may need support with)
- Simple adaptations to the belay
- Accessible belaying (belaying from a wheelchair)
- Communication
- Planning a progressive session or programme
This course is part theory and part practical. You will be given the opportunity to experience some of the different methods for supportive climbing.

Cost of workshops
The normal cost for this workshop would be £60pp however, this is being supported by
sportscotland and we are pleased to be able to offer this workshop at a reduced rate of only £15pp.
