Q&A with Gareth
Tell us about your connection with climbing?
In 2012 I took my 4 year old son along to our local climbing wall and he absolutely loved it. A few years later he started to compete in the Youth Climbing Series which he still competes in. More recently, my daughter has also started climbing and when I can, I try to get on a wall!
How long have you been involved in climbing/ mountaineering?
Being brought up in Royal Deeside, I spent most of my teenage weekends in the hills, climbing Corbets and Munros, staying in mountain bothies and even snow holes in the winter.
Why do you like climbing/ mountaineering?
I love the outdoors, spending time with my family in the hills and the confidence climbing gives my kids.
What made you want to join the ClimbScotland team?
I joined the ClimbScotland team as a volunteer in order to give back to the Climbing Community.
What is your role?
My role is the Chief Competition Coordinator and Chief Judge for the North Rounds of the Youth Climbing Series.
What do you like about working with the team?
I find it very rewarding working with equally motivated team members.
What is your main ambitions with your role?
I want to create a safe but relaxed environment at the competitions for the young climbers to be able to focus on climbing to the best of their abilities, whilst having fun with their peers.
